short film

This short film was interesting to say the least from the beginning when Tanner stood up and read his treatment for it. I knew almost immediately that I wanted to make it into a short film, but there were a few hurdles that we had to get over before we could actually make it. The first thing was trying to find a location that would let us use it. It was particularly hard to find one because we needed a restaurant preferably after it was closed and we needed to pretty much pour blood all over the place. As you might imagine it didn't go so well with everyone we asked. So we started planning out how we could fix this major problem since our hole idea revolved around using a restaurant setting. The second obstacle that we faced was, naturally, actors. We needed two older people to play the parents, one kid, and about 3-4 other people to play the wait staff and extras to make the restaurant not look empty. So, again, you can see the problem there. With such a short amount of time to plan and film and we couldn't have the location we wanted we were all kind of freaking out at this point. Thats when we decided to just throw our story, but keep the basic concept still-- the cutting of the finger. At this point we all started brain storming what our story could be instead and eventually we decided on just a few friends hanging out, sister wants to play with them, they say no, one goes to make tea, cuts off his finger, chaos, chaos, chaos, and the sister then come in and pours herself tea without knowing the finger was in it, and end. We all agreed that was the easiest and fastest way to accomplish our idea, so we went to work on all our jobs. I was in charge of making the finger look like it was cut off. I ran into a few problems like I wasn't sure how to make the finger look cut off and I didn't have the right makeup to make it look real when I learned how to.But that was all solved and everything worked out the way it was supposed to. That was until we went to edit it. When Mallory got the footage we all noticed how awkward the script was, so Mallory suggested we make it into a silent film. We then researched silent films, found filters to make it look like them, and then found music that you would hear if you were watching a real silent film. But we did decide to leave in the scream to emphasize that he just cut off his finger. It was also to make it funnier which it did in the end. Overall this project went pretty similarly to some of our work last year.
